Spelling Bee

The PTA is proud to support Viejo’s 3rd annual bilingual Spelling Bee. This fun and enriching event gives students the opportunity to build confidence, strengthen vocabulary, and celebrate bilingual learning in both Spanish and English.

How It Works:

  • Preliminary Rounds: Preliminary spelling bees are held during lunch recess so that every student has the opportunity to participate without missing classroom time. Each class holds its own mini-bee to determine the top 2–3 spellers who will advance to the finals. Classroom Bees Begin: March 31

  • Final Round: Finalists from each class compete for the title of grade-level Spelling Bee Champion. Lunchtime Finals: April 3

  • Language Focus by Grade:

    • Younger grades spell only in Spanish.

    • Older grades receive a mix of Spanish and English words to increase the challenge.

Why It Matters:

Our bilingual Spelling Bee is a great way to encourage academic growth, celebrate language learning, and give students a chance to shine in a supportive school community. This event helps make learning fun while highlighting the value of biliteracy at Viejo.

To make this event a success, we’re looking for dedicated volunteers.

Here’s what we’re hoping to offer with your support:

*Organizing and supervising preliminary rounds

*Coordinating the final competition

*Pronouncing and confirming spelling words

*Preparing certificates or small prizes for participants

This program typically takes at least 2 different lunch recesses and some preparation time in creating the word lists and awards. If you're interested in volunteering or learning more, we’d love your support!
